France Calls Crisis Meeting as Student Protests Intensify Nationwide
High school and university students across France have staged widespread protests, setting fires and erecting blockades outside hundreds of schools over overcrowded classrooms, crumbling infrastructure, and severe resource shortages. The demonstrations turned violent in cities like Marseille, Nantes, and Strasbourg, leading to clashes with police, injuries to school staff, the destruction of a firetruck, and hundreds of arrests. Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu called a crisis meeting and directed ministers to cancel official travel, while Education Minister Edouard Geffray scheduled emergency meetings with union and student representatives as political tensions heighten ahead of next year's presidential election.
